yeah, i think being able to whip things up just comes with experience/confidence. i got it for a few things after a while (ie, i just kind of figured out how to make mashed potatos and hash browns on my own, but those are pretty hard to mess up). i like cooking and i'm interested in it, but my problem is that when i'm hungry i lose all patience/willpower to do anything but the absolute easiest thing. and naturally i rarely even think about cooking until i'm hungry, unless i immerse myself in it and think of it as an interest/hobby.
yeah, same! being an adult sucks and i'm always happy to help people with shit like that since i have more experience than most of the people i know. (i had to explain to someone recently that you usually need a job before someone will rent an apartment to you.........)
the other thing that's kind of depressing about cooking is just putting that much effort into something for just yourself. i feel like it'd be easier to get excited about cooking for other people.
